SoMa also goes by the name South of Market. No matter what you call the area, you’re going to love everything about it. It’s one of the most exciting neighborhoods in San Francisco and it’s easy to see why it’s population has grown considerably over the past several years.
If you’re planning on moving to SoMa, you’re going to find a variety of apartment buildings. Being in SoMa will put you south of Market Street, and it'll also put you northeast of the Mission District. No matter what you’re looking for in a San Francisco experience, there’s a pretty good chance you’re going to be able to find it in SoMa.
SoMa has seen tremendous change over the years. The worn-down buildings that made up the neighborhood were eventually replaced by clubs and other trendy spots in the 1980s. The 1990s saw a huge rise in rental prices for many portions of San Francisco. SoMa was no different. The clubs were replaced with living situations that only the truly rich were able to afford. As the 90s drew to a close, and the dot-com bubble exploded into a million smaller bubbles, the prices for many of these buildings decreased dramatically. In the end, SoMa offers plenty of housing possibilities.
At the same time, you can also find plenty of examples of an enduring nightclub culture. No matter what you’re looking for, your best bet for getting around the neighborhood is the same as your best bet for getting around the city itself. Trust the BART line to move you to and from SoMa, and you should be just fine.
Other attractions in SoMa include Moscone Center, the Metreon, Yerba Buena Gardens and Ice Skating Center, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of African Diaspora, Treasure Island, and so much more. It’s also here in SoMa that you can take in a San Francisco Giants game.
