The Financial District serves as the economic epicenter of San Francisco. When you’re talking about the most powerful, important cities in California and in the US, San Francisco is always going to find a place on the list. Although the Financial District is frequently being overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of people who work in the area, it’s still a point of interest for anyone who wants a distinctive San Francisco experience.
One of most distinctive elements of the Financial District’s appeal is that it offers some of the best shots of the city skyline that you’re going to find anywhere. Very often, when you see incredible pictures of the landscape and buildings that define San Francisco, you’re looking at photos that were snapped at some spot in the Financial District.
There is definitely some serious money running through the Financial District. Tons of corporate headquarters can be found there, and each of the six Fortune 500 companies that exist in San Francisco are in the Financial District. Some of the headquarters you’re bound to spot on a walk through the area include Gap, Wells Fargo, Bank of the West, Blue Shield, Levi Strauss and Co, PG&E Corporation, McKesson Corporation, and several others.
If corporate buildings aren’t really your thing, the Financial District also offers a lot of shopping opportunities. A number of malls can be found in the area, including the Crocker Galleria, the Embarcadero Center, and the Ferry Building Marketplace. You’ll also want to note that the Union Square shopping district exists to the west of San Francisco’s Financial District.
