4 Steps to the Best Entryway

4 Steps to the Best Entryway Expand options

Everyone wants their entryway to look good. That’s why you mow the lawn when you’d rather sleep in on a Saturday. Keeping up with your home helps it last longer and prevents damage from occurring, but it can also make your home look more beautiful too.

Your entryway has many parts, so where should you start? Read on to learn four steps to the best entryway so you can tackle the projects your home needs to the most. These are all easy to accomplish, so you don’t need to hire professional help.

1. Update Your Welcome Mat

It’s always nice to lay out a welcome mat when you move into a new house, but how often have you replaced it with something new? Unless you walk over it every day, it’s easy to forget about the mat that welcomes everyone to your home.

Even if you have a covered porch, welcome mats deteriorate over time. Sunshine fades the bright colors and bad weather soaks into the material, encouraging the growth of mold and bacteria. It’s smart to replace your welcome mat often, so get creative.

Find cute seasonal mats so you change it out at least four times per year. You can also get welcome mats to celebrate accomplishments, like graduations and birthday parties. It’s an easy way to decorate your entryway and give it character without breaking the budget.

2. Create a Relaxing Entryway

Set up a bench outside your front door and install a sunshade if you don’t have a porch. Those with a porch can always opt for a few rocking chairs and a side table or a stylish wicker bench.

Don’t forget that decor will complete your entryway look, so search for weather-resistant pillows and rugs. You can also make their outdoor decor with supplies around the house, which adds a personal touch to any decorating plan.

3. Match Exterior Doors

Doors face the same outdoor elements that ruin welcome mats, so sometimes it’s smart to look for replacements.

Change your doors if they’re faded, cracked or peeling. Before you install anything, you can match your entry and garage doors so your project makes the whole house look better. Aim for a bright color, interesting design or weatherproof material to get the best investment from your purchase.

4. Paint a Fresh Color

Check out the front of your home and see if it’s missing a pop of color. You might want to think about painting your front steps or porch a fresh shade of white. You can also use an accent color for certain areas to add an extra splash of creativity.

After you get the paint color you prefer, sand or scrape any wooden areas down to remove chipped or cracked material. Paint over it and finish with a sealant to lock in the color and make it last longer. Talk with your local paint store experts to discuss which kinds of paint would work best on the material that makes up your entryway so you don’t accidentally get something that won’t look right.

Think About Your Home

As you consider each project for your entryway, think about your home and what it needs. Walk up to your front door and analyze what you see to decide what’s missing or what could use an update. Everything from getting a new welcome mat to matching your exterior doors will increase your curb appeal and make your entryway more inviting.
